Do the best you can.

It is all anyone can do, the best they can. I am amazed at the amount people are happy with not doing and when someone calls them out on a mediocre job they are indignant. How dare you! Not me. Or I am doing what everyone else is doing  so why do any more? Do the most. Do the best. Do all you can with not one reward. Do it because you will not do anything halfway. Do it for yourself. There is a great feeling of doing the best you can.

Amaryllis Watercolor by Laurie Rohner

Why am I saying this? After a couple of weeks switching up my web sites, changing around my internet/TV service and still having a house on the market it struck me.  I worked with many people from all around the world (not by choice) and not one person could give me a straight answer. Is it me? Or did the human race become complacent and stop doing their best.

Working for yourself is difficult. Working as an artist/designer/entrepreneur at times daunting, for one person wearing too many hats can be tiring. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have had to learn web designing marketing and promoting products and myself in a world where texting is more used than the spoken word. You adapt and you work hard at always giving it (your business) your best.  Whatever the business is if you are marketing selling promoting and creating an agreement with someone then YES do your best.

Overcoming a stereotype, women can’t fix lawnmowers. Wrong!

Last weekend I fixed my lawnmower. I think it has to do with being an artist and loving to tinker with things or maybe my Dad teaching me about engines but whatever the reason I knew I could figure it out. My Toro 1999 Push Mower was starting to putter and lawnmower lose power and I knew I hadn’t done a good job of taking care of it. I pulled out the product manual and started to investigate what I could do.

This is going to be me no doubt. Thank you for the image at www.independent.co.uk

First I replaced the spark plug which some arrogant good old boy sold me two weeks earlier with the correct size and make. Then I remembered my Dad saying every engine needs to breath and replaced the air filter. I pulled off this part and that part cleaning them off. I put everything back and pulled the cord to hear my little mower start with one pull and purred. I had a huge smile on my face and great satisfaction. Me a 50 something woman got her mower purring and there wasn’t a man anywhere to be seen.

These days politics keep saying there is women’s inequality and I say women need to get their hands dirty and fix the mower. How can we (women) ever expect the same respect in work and in life if women keep dividing the work into men and women jobs. I knew the good ol’ boy sold me the wrong spark plug but didn’t have the energy at that time to argue with him. When I questioned the size and he said they come in all sizes but this will work would he have done this with a man? Maybe but maybe not.

Whatever you set out to accomplish, overcome, expand who you are by your own perception of the world do so with a belief the answer is there, ready for you to take and run with, making you a better more aware awesome being.

Women are awesome creatures but it is women who put the restraints on women because women believe there is a problem. I don’t have a problem with men or women but have a huge problem with humans telling me there is one. It doesn’t matter what the issue is once you believe there is an issue than for you there is an issue. I choose to live with as little constraints as I can and it started with me deleting the thought there is a problem. If you look at all things as lessons to be solved it makes those problems not as big and more manageable.

The next time something breaks in the house try to fix it and think how happy your spouse might be. Maybe he will clean the toilet in return. It could happen!

When did the nature become a dirty word?

Can you believe it? Can you believe it is Earth Day which is one of my favorite days because I work outside in the garden (weather permitting) and dig in the dirt feeling the soil under my nails and the smell of the earth fill my lungs. That is heaven in my world.

BUT I want to know when did loving this earth and nature become a dirty word? It was noble to work with your hands and nurture nature. People thought twice before chopping down a 200-year-old tree. Somehow today that is not the situation.

At the end of my street someone chopped down all the sell-able lumber trees and the small saplings were piled in huge piles to rot. Later I found out the person who owns the land needed some quick cash and sold the trees for lumber. I don’t know about you but when I see a landscape destroyed and left in chaos I get a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach.

As you drive along the country roads I see too much garbage. While living in Vermont this was something you rarely find. I travel with garbage bags and pick up the recyclable to bring back to my home to discard. So again I ask why is it easier to throw it out the window and not in your garbage can? Is it because being in love with nature not a good thing?

We hear about climate (whatever) and nobody thinks maybe if we left the trees standing things would be better? Why cut a tree down to build a home when there is a perfectly wonderful home ready to be updated and loved again?

Yes I do think nature is a beautiful word and maybe we should nurture nature and in turn nature nurtures us. We all have to learn to co-exist. In stead of looking down at the pad of your phone try looking around at the beauty of nature. Enjoy! Revel in nature’s wonderment.

Don’t let anything stop you from finding a solution.

Today my monitor for my computer went out. First it works, then it doesn’t. Since I am not a computer savvy person at all not in the least bit and usually end up making things worst I was very upset. This is my life and everything I need to do is on this stupid machine. Anxious annoyed and getting madder by the minute because I did not have the money right now to buy a new monitor. Not only that but have held off upgrading my system till after I moved.

Why?

I knew I had to relax and though I was upset the solution was probably right in front of my face, which it was.

Is it perfect, no. Is it keeping me working and doing what is necessary for my work, oh yes. I have an old relic of a computer that had pictures on it I had meant to copy and load to my newer computer but never got around to doing so. When I was finished I intended to give the old computer to an organization. It is amazing my tardiness is what saved me with this recent dilemma. The old monitor is what I am using now. Not the fabulous LED 22 inch monitor but an old relic and it is fine.

My little fabulous old monitor.

What I am reminded is first how our society is connected in ways we mostly never think twice about. All our work and everything needed to interact with each other is in a machine. When we cannot use it – withdrawal.  Secondly when hit with a problem relax. The problem isn’t going anywhere but the solution needs to be birthed into your consciousness. It took most of my day to see an answer. Just plug in the monitor and see if it works. Wow, it did.

Now the last thing I have to mention is how I view the sites I have changed. I wonder how others see my sites? Is this the way a tablet or laptop sees them?

This is how I see the world Trees Forests Nature and Sunshine.

We get so locked into the way we view our own world is this the way everyone sees it? Each of us look through eyes but see differently and I for one love that concept. I know I see the world with the eyes of a slightly a skewed artistic world. Never feel I fit in and like that I don’t. In many ways I feel like the outdated monitor I am looking at right now, old discarded but still has lots of life and usefulness. This little monitor I see now with different eyes. Grateful it is still here to help me see a brighter world.

Don’t stop looking for the solution to a problem, the answer will come.

Today is what matters most.

The Great Buddha statue, Kōtoku Temple, Kamaku...

“Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.”

Buddha, the founder of Buddhism.

Just wanted to share this quote with everyone in this beautiful world of ours. When you woke up this morning be grateful for the start of something new and fresh. Whatever happened yesterday happened and there is nothing going to change yesterday. Tomorrow who really cares. But today think of all the possibilities and the wonderful gifts of the day is bringing you. It is what you do with those choices, negative or positive, is what matters.

Go forward with courage because this is one person rooting you on.

Keep the lines open.

“I cleanse the window of my mind, that it may become a mirror reflecting inspiration from the most High. I do this, not with strenuous effort, but through quiet contemplation, through gently reaching and affirming an inward recognition. Today I walk in the pathway of inspiration. I know exactly what to do in every situation. There is an inspiration within me which governs every act, every thought, with certainty, with conviction and in peace.”

Rain Drops on Lamb's Ear

Ever have one of those times in your day where you seem to suddenly become convinced you are being dragged down in mud or treading water with no land in sight? Today I felt so heavy my bones ached. There was no reason for this, things are moving along for me and I had nothing of really concern in my life. But what had happened is simple. I had disconnected from inspiration. Inspiration is another word for spirit. I had allowed the window of my spirit to become foggy like the mirror in my bath after a morning shower. Yes, I went about my daily activities and business but disconnected. I had no service, no bars.

The solution easily remedied open up the portal and reconnect with spirit or inspiration. Allow the voice in your heart to speak and not the clamoring voice in your head to taunt every action. By finding a place where there is quiet with no interruptions for a mere five minutes can re-establish your connection. Close your eyes and imagine a ball of light glowing and swirling from the center of your body or from the heart area. Form a picture of this ball what colors do you see? Breathe deeply and exhale and with each breath grow the ball of energy until the ball encompasses you and where you sit. Ask your guides angels or ancestors to help you reopen your connection to spirit and to help remove these negative feelings and thoughts you have had about yourself. A sense of well-being and calmness is felt when these feelings of disconnect lift. Give gratitude to your guides and to Spirit for their ever-present help. Allow the light to settle in the heart area open to inspiration. Open your eyes. Done.

It is a daily practice and when I get to involved in my life I tend to not make the time. Without my daily ritual I had shut the door to inspiration. I had forgotten the simplest lesson. Each day I start with meditation for some prayer, and before I start my work I usually did this ritual opening my heart. I know it is always within me that wonderful ball of light. It was my way of showing gratitude to Spirit. When I did not use the connection the mirror became dirty and fogged over. We need this connection open every day to inspiration. Is your line open with five bars or with no bars?
