Do you sell on Etsy?

Did you know Etsy went public and offered stock options on the NY stock exchange? Fabulous for Etsy but this leaves the shops asking why? Etsy was a new exciting way for artists designers and all creatives of handmade quality product to sell to the world on one easy platform. The brilliant creator of Etsy sold the company and since that day it has never been the same. What made Etsy different exciting and the place for all to shop for fabulous handmade original product vanished. Many of my customers will not shop there anymore. Now it is a place like all the rest, over-run with knock off mass-produced. If you were willing to go the route of what Etsy has pushed as wholesale you might still be able to stay on top of the herd. I doubt it.

Visit Between The Weeds

Etsy is a business but I am a business too. They have the right to do and work the way they see fit. I am also a business that can choose what and where I sell my product. After a considerable time I studied and analysed the cost and time needed to keep my shop on Etsy finding my Etsy shop is running in the red. Bottom line is, Etsy is not working for me anymore.

My new brand for Between The Weeds Studio and Laurie Rohner Studio

What is working is my web site. I have two. First at Laurie Rohner Studio and the second at Between The Weeds. I have integrated the two web sites together and have started branding my image and work. Now when I promote my work only my work is promoted. No check out other work on my site directing a potential customer off to another shop. I cannot say more explicitly, you need your own web site. How much money do you give Etsy a month on listing fees? There are a bunch of web site you can create and you probably wont spend as much. I use weebly but also  have checked into wix and square. I just love weebly and have used them from the beginning.

Images help promote your work.

Stop trying to get your views up on Etsy, that will not help. Stop trying to list something everyday. Stop using any of the other old outdated tricks of days long ago, again not working. Sit down make a list of what you want to showcase on a web site and get one built. Believe me if I can do it, you can do it. Make it a fun project and not a chore. Have inspiration flowing and be creative. Another great plus is you can change it around when you want.

Are you mad, yet?

I know I am. While watching The O’Reilly Report  on Fox I saw how angered Mr O’Reilly has become about the state of this nation and the innate reporting from slanted news media people and the White House. It is a show I not always agree with but he always gives a fair look on most situations.

I am amazed how deafening the silence is about Kate’s death from Mr Obama and the DOJ. The coverage on the other stations not too much and yet just again another death but this time an eight year old boy killed by an illegal immigrant. First we need to protect American’s then we can see what can be done to protect illegal aliens.

At the end of this year many more employed people will feel the sting of Obamacare and find as I have health care is far from affordable. Remember the luncheon meetings at the White House with Health Insurance Companies? Thought it was strange but the WH had their answers lined up and now what a big lie. Health Care Companies have made huge profits. At this point the blame lies at the feet of the WH and at the feet of the Congress both Republican and definitely the Democrats.

What can anyone do? You can start by voicing your outrage. You can tell little spoiled pop stars who hate America to go someplace else, lick donuts and stop buying their music. You can use your mind and ferret out truth. You can spread your pride and show the greatness of this country.  You can stop waiting for the government to make it better and get up and do it yourself. You can stop texting, playing mindless games, disconnect from the soul-sucking machines and get involved in the schools neighborhoods and community. You can VOTE!

How many vets need our help? Not in their nature to say anything, I get it. I like to do it on my own too. But I know if an opportunity is given, I would give a vet anything. I feel the same about the police and the firefighters. These are people who ask for not one thing but have a huge heart and calling to serve and protect. Why can’t we reciprocate and show them respect.

Why is it before the first Black President there was relative respect for all races and it seemed people finally saw people as people nothing more.  Yet today the Divide in this country is ever growing and it is the same Black President widening the gap. Maybe it isn’t race but that he believes he is a victim and with that mentality he could never be any more than he is today. Frightened to act.  I hope we can eventually move back to the years of acceptance and understanding. Yes there are still closed minded people but we are human and that fact will always be but let’s not give more power to the race baiting rhetoric than is needed.

Lastly is the ridiculous fighting among the Republican Presidential candidates which is mainly due to the wonderful one side not so balanced press. It seems the press wants Jeb to be the guy and I think great another Bush. I like Trump and if teamed up with someone like Senator Cruz what a great match. But my thought are Trump is trying to raise awareness about the state of the disastrous choices made by all in Washington. Then Hillary can this be real? She is just shy of being a criminal if not one already and could be rewarded with the job of President? Seriously? But maybe that is OK with you. After all people licking donuts and you possibly buying one of those donuts is OK.

Get mad! Wake up! Do something! So ends my mad rant…thank you.

Overcoming a stereotype, women can’t fix lawnmowers. Wrong!

Last weekend I fixed my lawnmower. I think it has to do with being an artist and loving to tinker with things or maybe my Dad teaching me about engines but whatever the reason I knew I could figure it out. My Toro 1999 Push Mower was starting to putter and lawnmower lose power and I knew I hadn’t done a good job of taking care of it. I pulled out the product manual and started to investigate what I could do.

This is going to be me no doubt. Thank you for the image at www.independent.co.uk

First I replaced the spark plug which some arrogant good old boy sold me two weeks earlier with the correct size and make. Then I remembered my Dad saying every engine needs to breath and replaced the air filter. I pulled off this part and that part cleaning them off. I put everything back and pulled the cord to hear my little mower start with one pull and purred. I had a huge smile on my face and great satisfaction. Me a 50 something woman got her mower purring and there wasn’t a man anywhere to be seen.

These days politics keep saying there is women’s inequality and I say women need to get their hands dirty and fix the mower. How can we (women) ever expect the same respect in work and in life if women keep dividing the work into men and women jobs. I knew the good ol’ boy sold me the wrong spark plug but didn’t have the energy at that time to argue with him. When I questioned the size and he said they come in all sizes but this will work would he have done this with a man? Maybe but maybe not.

Whatever you set out to accomplish, overcome, expand who you are by your own perception of the world do so with a belief the answer is there, ready for you to take and run with, making you a better more aware awesome being.

Women are awesome creatures but it is women who put the restraints on women because women believe there is a problem. I don’t have a problem with men or women but have a huge problem with humans telling me there is one. It doesn’t matter what the issue is once you believe there is an issue than for you there is an issue. I choose to live with as little constraints as I can and it started with me deleting the thought there is a problem. If you look at all things as lessons to be solved it makes those problems not as big and more manageable.

The next time something breaks in the house try to fix it and think how happy your spouse might be. Maybe he will clean the toilet in return. It could happen!

Today. Today I embrace my intuition.

This year started with a feeling that this was going to be a grand year, full of new exciting profitable projects and selling my studio home. It is November and I still am waiting for someone to buy this home. I am still waiting to sink my teeth into that new exciting project. I am still living in a place called limbo town. With each hour day and month I have grown more anxious and fearful that my timeline won’t be met. I wake every morning with hope seeking for an answer only to flop into the bed at night totally exhausted and stressed. My body aches from the stress and my mind is on its own continuous loop never disengaging making getting a good nights sleep not so possible. Yet today I got up thinking today is different. Today is different because it is today.

Today I stop waiting. Today I start doing. Today I start allowing. Today I stop controlling. Today is new and exciting. Today is the project I have searched for starts to give birth. Today when I fall into bed I will be tired not from stress and dreams unrealized but from working and creating in complete synergy of my life. No restrictions. Today I am co-creating my story.

No more thinking it through or is this being realistic? Being realistic and thinking it through got me to this point and well that did not work out to well for me. Today I embrace my intuition, my soul whispers, the little signs you only see when you stop pretending they are not there. Today my belief in the divine plan exists is my guide. Today it all begins, an epic journey, is today your today?

Don’t let anything stop you from finding a solution.

Today my monitor for my computer went out. First it works, then it doesn’t. Since I am not a computer savvy person at all not in the least bit and usually end up making things worst I was very upset. This is my life and everything I need to do is on this stupid machine. Anxious annoyed and getting madder by the minute because I did not have the money right now to buy a new monitor. Not only that but have held off upgrading my system till after I moved.

Why?

I knew I had to relax and though I was upset the solution was probably right in front of my face, which it was.

Is it perfect, no. Is it keeping me working and doing what is necessary for my work, oh yes. I have an old relic of a computer that had pictures on it I had meant to copy and load to my newer computer but never got around to doing so. When I was finished I intended to give the old computer to an organization. It is amazing my tardiness is what saved me with this recent dilemma. The old monitor is what I am using now. Not the fabulous LED 22 inch monitor but an old relic and it is fine.

My little fabulous old monitor.

What I am reminded is first how our society is connected in ways we mostly never think twice about. All our work and everything needed to interact with each other is in a machine. When we cannot use it – withdrawal.  Secondly when hit with a problem relax. The problem isn’t going anywhere but the solution needs to be birthed into your consciousness. It took most of my day to see an answer. Just plug in the monitor and see if it works. Wow, it did.

Now the last thing I have to mention is how I view the sites I have changed. I wonder how others see my sites? Is this the way a tablet or laptop sees them?

This is how I see the world Trees Forests Nature and Sunshine.

Path to the Birches Oil on Canvas.

We get so locked into the way we view our own world is this the way everyone sees it? Each of us look through eyes but see differently and I for one love that concept. I know I see the world with the eyes of a slightly a skewed artistic world. Never feel I fit in and like that I don’t. In many ways I feel like the outdated monitor I am looking at right now, old discarded but still has lots of life and usefulness. This little monitor I see now with different eyes. Grateful it is still here to help me see a brighter world.

Don’t stop looking for the solution to a problem, the answer will come.

If the goal is joy, this pink peony oil painting is the answer.

The basis of your life is absolute freedom, the goal is joy, and the result of that perfect combination is motion forward, or growth. Your goal is to find objects of attention that let your cork raise.  –Abraham Hicks

When I smell a peony my whole being elevates and wrapped in the sweet light aroma of a the flower, no problems disease troubles are present and I am filled with joy of being. When I painted this bloom I did so as a reminder of the joy. It stirs my senses and tugs at my heart and with that energy I can move forward and out of the vibration that has created discomfort. I can absolutely confirm this painting will not only get your attention but will help you move forward so your cork, too, raises.

If everyone did exactly what they want to do?

Hypothetically, people worry about everyone being selfishly oriented. “If everyone did exactly what they want to do, what kind of world would this be?” And we say, a really, really good one. Because if everyone did what they wanted to do, everyone would feel free. And if you feel free, you feel empowered. And every negative emotion that exists—hear this—every negative emotion that exists is because there is some sense of loss of freedom somewhere in there.

I paint using a process called glazing. It is layering pigments down on top of each other building depth of pigment and emotion through color. The process is labor and time intensive. This painting took approximately 56hrs to complete. There are about 10 layers of pigment on this painting.

Nobody else knows your reason for being.

Nobody else knows your reason for being. You do. Your bliss guides you to it. When you follow your bliss, when you follow your path to joy, your conversation is of joy, your feelings are of joy — you’re right on the path of that which you intended when you came forth into this physical body

Nature Art Flower Photography
Photography by Laurie Rohner

This is a Peruvian flower on a plant given to me by a botanist friend. He had given me just a clipping with instructions on how to care for this plant. He said with little care this plant once established would display spectacular blossoms with enticing aroma. I have separated this plant twice and it has moved with me several times but it has never given up and each year it blooms. This year I have two plants that are blooming. The bloom’s scent is magical and not overbearing. It is a flower that lifts you with beauty and aroma. The  blooms only last for 24 hrs and then shrivel and die.  The plant is nothing spectacular with large spiky green leaves but inside the leaves comes forth these buds. Nature does not think why it simply knows it must and maybe we should take a page from this amazing plant. Inside all of us is a blossom and only you know what the blossom will be. Follow your bliss. Know you are always on the right path.

Life is your canvas.

Today’s little inspirational thought for you to ponder.  Life is your canvas; no one can paint it but you. Each moment is an invitation to create yourself and the life you’ve imagined. Too often we wait for the “big” occasion or “just the right moment” to celebrate life. Your days are just waiting to be enriched with creative thought, joyful purpose, and inspired meaning.
